I am going to write about the biggest SEO mistakes that people do/or not do to there site. I will cover one topic through each post.
The first one I will be covering is one of the biggest mistakes or missed opportunities:
TITLE TAGS - Improper use or no use of the title tag is the biggest SEO mistake you can make on your site. The title is used to tell the search engines what your page is about and the text within in this tag is also used by search engines to display your site to your potential consumer.
When creating your title tag text you want to think about what your page is about. What is the message of the page that you are creating or have created. If you can not answer this question then you need to ask yourself if you actually even need the page at all. Each title tag should be unique because it should be describing the contents of that page.
The use of your company in your title tag will protect your brand but it usually is not a smart idea to put it as the first keywords in the title as you want to reserve this space for the keyword phrases you are trying to win/what your pages is about. For example, if you type in ‘mortgage’ into the search engines you will see Mortgage101.com. You will see that the first couple of keywords are mortgage related terms and then the company/brand name is last in the title. Mortgage101 is focusing on the keyword “mortgage” and “mortgage calculator” but is also protecting its brand with its name at the end of the title. One recommendation for them would be to shorten the title if possible so that it fits within the 65 character limit for Google. I guess thats another point to make…try to keep your titles under 65 characters as this is all that will be displayed by Google otherwise your site with get “words words words ….” displayed by Google.

Not only that, but h1 and h2 tags can actually determine what shows up as your description on the SEs
I have always followed the rule:
1.If brand is powerful then put at beginning = more visible to potential customer via SERPS (brand reassurance)
2.If brand is not well known = put at end of as what will encourage the click from SERPS will be the keywords themselves and not the brand
