Google Using Different Titles for My Site

Today I wanted to show WHY Google is using different title tags for sites.

 

When I go to Google and type in “thought equity” (or even another client of ours “seasons at sandpoint”) Google pulls in the following results:

But this is not the TITLE I have in the title tag.    The below is:

For certain sites Google is using a different title tag than what I am trying to tell the search engines. 

 

Where did they get this other title tag from?  The Google Directory.

If your site is in the DMOZ/Google Directory with a different title tag (which most are) as this is the company name Google will use this title tag when searchers do a company or brand name search instead of the title you have in your title tag.  The reason this is done is because Google wants to promote click thrus to websites and if Google matches the searchers query with a website title that is almost exactly the same it proves a great user experience…..and that’s what Google really wants in the end.
