Preparation for Camp
Be in shape
Know the reason why you are going to camp? To get hired? To learn? To keep your job? When you go to these camps regardless of the reason be honest with yourself. Always set the tone with your first impression.
• The reason you are going to camp is an interview.
• Understand your role.
• Leadership skills.
• People always stay with their group of people. Go to a different table.
• Appearance
o On the floor – What does your shirt look like? How does it fit?
o Socks – Wear an athletic sock. 4-6 inches high
o Shorts – Athletic shorts that fit
o Conditioning – Athletic look
o Listening Skills – No “yeah but…”
o Use a good voice and always look in the eye when talking
o Get in your mechanics book and rule book
o Off ball coverage is huge!
o Game control/game management
o Hustle
o Call Selectivity
o Establish Post Play
o Don’t ball watch
o When you go off ball move your body to show you are watching off ball
o Get illegal screens
o Rebound fouls – rebound consequences, or dumb player
o Voice
o Mechanics – Strong Signals
o Strong Whistle – Strong short blast
